Laura Aiken Pizza expo a great experience
Written by Laura Aiken

It was nice to see not only the Canadian representation at The International Pizza Expo that wrapped up in Las Vegas on March 12, but the American interest in our marketplace.

The magazine’s sales manager Christine Livingstone and I fielded a lot of questions about the stability of the Canadian economy, and it seems the perception is that we are definitely in a better boat than the U.S. All of the magazines on display at our booth were gone by the end of the show, a good sign of Canadian interest. As well, several exhibitors expressed an interest in moving into the Canadian market. For pizzerias, this could mean more new products expanding into Canada.

Canadians were on the floor as buyers and in the International Pizza Challenge as competitors. I hope that everyone who attended found it worth the trip and learned something to take back to their pizzerias. Pizza Today magazine, who hosts the expo, reported that it was the second largest expo on the event’s 25 year history. This is impressive considering the economic climate is more worrisome in the U.S. than here. It seems the pizza industry is feeling good, and that is a great sign we’ll ride out the downturn across North America.
